Seasonal Allergies
We are getting close to that time of the year where the snow melts (FINALLY!) and it starts to turn green again. While some of us are counting the days until that happens, many are also dreading the first sign of pollen season, as what comes next are runny noses, sneezing, itchy eyes, and sinus infections. If that is you, know that there is hope through chiropractic and acupuncture.
What Causes Allergies?
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, springtime allergies are present due to the element of wind, which is something we are not short of here in the Front Range. Wind can cause an imbalance of qi within the body, which can cause a weakened Wei Qi, also known as the defensive qi. When our Wei Qi is strong, our body is able to fight off illnesses as well as any foreign substances. When our Wei Qi is weakened, we are more prone to frequent colds and allergies.
Allergies occur when your body believes that a foreign substance is a threat. As a result, histamines are released, which in turn causes inflammation and irritation, typically in the sinuses. However other irritation can happen on the skin, or in the throat.
Chiropractic Care for Allergies
As we talked about in the previous blog, the nervous system is the master system in the body. It controls every system, including the immune system. When the spine is misaligned, the immune system is at risk of not functioning properly. When that happens, you can be more at risk of allergies. Proper alignment of the spine can restore the nervous system, and, as a result, the immune system, allowing your body to respond to allergens more effectively.
Acupuncture for Allergies
Many recent studies show the large benefits of acupuncture for allergies!
Treatment for allergies focus on the front of the body, most commonly through six points on the face. These points treat for “dampness”, which is related to the production of mucus and phlegm. At the time of your appointment, your provider will evaluate your symptoms and determine which acupuncture points will be most effective for your treatment.
If you typically struggle with allergies in the springtime and would like to avoid that this year, give us a call to schedule and appointment today! Dr. Jaci and Dr. Amanda are both currently accepting patients, and would be thrilled to discuss treatment options for you!
